Who We are

We're the harbinger of change!

Gaming Safe (GamSafe) Initiative, was incorporated with the social focus to inform, educate and advocate for better gaming/gambling policies and laws to protect both the under-aged and the vulnerable. We are committed to educating students about underage gambling prevention and intervention and to promote responsible gaming for people through our programmes.

What we do

What problems do we address ?

The Problem : Gambling

In 2013, gambling addiction was classified as a mental disorder, by the American Psychiatric Association, aligning it with addictions to drugs and alcohol. Studies show it has the highest suicide rate among these addictions. The root of this addiction is our passionate focus. We acknowledge its sensitive and compulsive nature, exacerbated by limited assistance compared to more developed regions with institutions addressing this issue.

Addressing Policy Gaps

Nigeria ranks 3rd in gambling prevalence on the continent, behind SA and Kenya. With over 730 billion Naira spent annually on sports betting, and earnings of at least 2 billion Naira daily, its now a pervasive social activity. Despite this, there's a lack of effort to tackle underage participation. We aim to address this issue.

Underage Gambling

Young people who gamble are at higher risk of poor academic performance, delinquency, and strained relationships with family and friends, hindering their early life goals. In Nigeria, one in ten adolescents partake in gambling, increasing the risk of developing a gambling disorder. We're proactively addressing this issue with intervention programs tailored for adolescents and teens.

Closing the Gap in Digital Education & Skills.

Unemployment often fuels problem gambling, particularly among youth drawn to the allure of quick wealth. To combat this, we aim to close the gap in digital literacy and skill acquisition. By providing alternative avenues for wealth generation beyond gambling, we plan to collaborate extensively with relevant stakeholders.

“The quantity of gambling exposure is alarming, and I reckon that we need to increase the quantity of gambling interventions in the country. But beyond quantity, we surely need quality interventions, and GamSafe is no doubt doing just that. Big ups to the team!”
